First D R Horton got me to agree to buy their home and put down a deposit with their promised 30 year fixed mortgage loan of only 4.018%. When I went to sign the week before closing, they increased the rate to 9%. I am on a fixed income and retired. They made the loan unaffordable. I had to run to the bank and get a last minute loan. The best my bank could do was get me an adjustable mortgage at 6%. Since I didnt want to lose my deposit, I bought the home with the 6% loan. Just before my 6% rate was to reset this year, I went to the bank and told them that I would go bankrupt, so they extended the terms of my loan for another year. If D R Horton had not lied and originally allowed me to use my bank which would have had the time to prepare a low thirty year fixed mortgage, then today I would still have money in savings.
Then, after I closed with my outside lender, I moved into the house which wasn't finished. I had it inspected and there are parts of the foundation missing. My bricks are cracking, and the yard floods from the three neighboring properties -something called negative drainage. The big electrical box in back of my home is in the middle of a puddle, and has electrocuted small animals. The water collects against my foundation. All this moisture has led to documented health problems. My doctor has written to D R Horton telling them that I get sick from all the mold. D R Horton doesnt care though. They tell me that I water my yard too much. Its been raining in Texas for nearly three months. Also the water department tells me that my water bills are too high and that I probably have a broken pipe under the home. I called two plumbers to find the leak but they couldnt find the main water valve to turn off the water. D R Horton probably never installed one to save money. In Texas, the builders inspect their own work. There is no building department to check whether work is done according to national codes.
