BAD HOME BUILDERS
D R Horton builds bad homes and sells them to you with bait and switch mortgages.
Mortgage Fraud and Lies
First D R Horton got me to agree to buy their home and put down a deposit with their promised 30 year fixed mortgage loan of only 4.018%.  When I went to sign the week before closing, they increased the rate to 9%.  I am on a fixed income and retired.  They made the loan unaffordable.  I had to run to the bank and get a last minute loan.  The best my bank could do was get me an adjustable mortgage at 6%.  Since I didnt want to lose my deposit, I bought the home with the 6% loan.  Just before my 6% rate was to reset this year, I went to the bank and told them that I would go bankrupt, so they extended the terms of my loan for another year.  If D R Horton had not lied and originally allowed me to use my bank which would have had the time to prepare a low thirty year fixed mortgage, then today I would still have money in savings.
Then, after I closed with my outside lender, I moved into the house which wasn't finished.  I had it inspected and there are parts of the foundation missing.  My bricks are cracking, and the yard floods from the three neighboring properties -something called negative drainage.  The big electrical box in back of my home is in the middle of a puddle, and has electrocuted small animals.  The water collects against my foundation.  All this moisture has led to documented health problems.  My doctor has written to D R Horton telling them that I get sick from all the mold.  D R Horton doesnt care though.  They tell me that I water my yard too much.  Its been raining in Texas for nearly three months.  Also the water department tells me that my water bills are too high and that I probably have a broken pipe under the home.  I called two plumbers to find the leak but they couldnt find the main water valve to turn off the water.  D R Horton probably never installed one to save money.  In Texas, the builders inspect their own work.  There is no building department to check whether work is done according to national codes.
Finally, I asked Horton to fix all the problems.  They told me that they would pay for my inspection report and all the damage, but they didn't.  They did send workers who made the problems worse.  They threatened me while in my house and I dont want them back.  Now that I have the Texas state legislature involved they are ignoring me a little less.  They have again promised to reimburse me for inspections that they have claimed to want to pay for but I havent yet seen the money.  In January 2008 I called a plumber who said that I had a broken pipe underground which was originally put there by D R Horton.  The plumber couldnt turn off the water because he couldnt find the cut off valve.  There might be one buried in the wall under the sheetrock, but D R Horton wont come out to find it for me.

I am a retired senior.  This is how they treat me.  What are your chances?  I have other retired neighbors who have gone through the same problems with Horton and the Texas Residential Construction Commission.  The TRCC is a state regulatory agency which is funded by the builders and 86% of the time sides with the builder.  Of the 14% of home owners that win, nearly none of them get the repairs promised by the builder.

I even have neighbors in the army fighting in Iraq who have had similar problems with D R Horton.  The soldiers risk their lives over seas so that D R Horton can steal their money here in the US.
